Trivia for Teambuilding FAQ

What is Online Team Trivia?

Online Team Trivia is a fun game played over Zoom. Over the course of about 90 minutes we ask 16 questions followed by a final bonus question where teams bet some or all of their points, like on Jeopardy. The questions cover a variety of subjects: Movies, music, sports, geography, science, current events, television, history, art, literature, and more.

Answers are submitted within the online software presented to the players; there is no need to use a second device in order to participate.

Why should we consider an online teambuilding trivia game?

With more people working from home than ever, it's easy to become disconnected from our colleagues. Our trivia game puts several coworkers together for an engaging 90-minute session of teamwork. The game is a fun activity, usually taking place in the afternoon, to relax and get to know each other better. Some groups call it Happy Hour Trivia.

It's also a way for a company with offices in various cities for employees to become familiar with each other.

How does it work?

When you book a game, we send you a Zoom link to pass along to the participants. When the game begins, we group your people on randomly-assigned teams of 4 to 6 players in what Zoom calls Breakout Rooms.

We read off a question and send teams to their Breakout Rooms, where they have two to three minutes to discuss each question among themselves, after which everyone comes back to the main session where the team captain submits their answer to one of our hosts in the Zoom chat. The game is modeled after Jeopardy, with questions covering all subjects, starting easier and becoming more difficult, with point values increasing as the game progresses.

How many people can participate?

We have run games with as few as six people, to over 150. Our Zoom subscription can handle up to 1000 players simultaneously. Invite as many people as you want. The more the merrier!

What if we want to have pre-assigned teams?

Just provide us with a roster of players and team assignments 24 hours before the game and we will manually assign players to teams when the game begins.

Some companies break their workforce into different segments for the trivia game: for example, one person each from HR, sales, accounting, IT, and executives can be placed on each team.

Is special software required?

The game takes place entirely in Zoom; each participant needs only one computer, laptop, tablet, or phone in order to play. While the software works in a browser window, using the Zoom client is best.

What prizes should we award to the winners?

That is entirely up to you and your company culture. Company swag or gift cards to national retailers are common prizes, though for many of our clients, bragging rights and the pride that comes with winning are sufficient rewards for the participants.

Can you run monthly or quarterly games in a league format?

Absolutely! We can keep track of team scores, as well as individual scores, over the course of several games conducted during the course of months or even years. We can keep the standings in a publicly-viewable spreadsheet so that your people can see the results.

Can you organize inter-office competitions?

We can definitely keep track of scores between different offices. We can even run the same set of questions so that employees in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco (for example) can have a contest or tournament to see which city does better.

Would trivia be a good fit for a quarterly or annual division or company meeting?

We have a number of accounting firms who use our trivia game after completing and filing end-of-quarter regulatory paperwork to government agencies. We have also hosted online company parties, including several in December 2020. Our trivia game is a great way to relax and celebrate after meeting a milestone or deadline, or celebrating the end of another successful year.

How much does it cost?

Our fee is $5 per Zoom connection (with a minimum of $250) for our 90-minute trivia game.

How do we pay for the trivia game?

We use Square and will send you an invoice after the event that can be paid with any major credit card. You will receive an email receipt after payment is made.
